What I am reading:

Nicholas Pelham, the Middle East Correspondent for the Economist gives a rare glimpse into the conditions in modern day Iran.  His account is particularly fascinating to me because my parents immigrated from Iran in 1977 and I have never been able to go back to visit given safety concerns.  Warning this is a long read.
1843 Magazine - Trapped in Iran

Howard Marks is one of the most successful investors around and in my opinion his brilliance exceeds even Warren Buffet's.  I look forward to reading his famous Memos that typically come out every quarter. His latest one speaks about the parallels between real life situations and investing with game theory.  After reading it I have been actively looking for a poker coach for myself and my daughter.
Oak Tree Capital - You Bet!

I love watching nature and animal shows and am particularly fascinated with exotic animals like Giraffes (although I dont have any pets).  If you are too, then have this quick read about some fascinating facts about Giraffes I bet you never knew.
Quartz - A tall drink of water

What I am watching:

I would never imagine myself watching a Gwyneth Paltrow show but her new Goop series on Netflix had one particularly interesting episode that I ended up watching over three times.  It explores the Wim Hoff Method which is a series of breathing exercises and cold exposure that have in some instances shown scientifically to alkalize your body, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost your immune system.  I've been practicing as much as I can by waking up early and taking a cold dip in the ocean while its winter in Miami. On my balcony I also setup a makeshift cold plunge using a pet tub and installed an ice machine. So far I’ve noticeably reduced my back pain and I feel a lot more alert and in a better mood during the days I practice the method.

One of the best TED talks I have watched in a while that really hit home for me is about Imposter Syndrome by the founder of Atlassian Software Mike Cannon-Brookes.  In my opinion, he’s one of the most impressive tech founders out there and his humbleness is something I have always admired. I’ve been using Atlassian software for about a decade and I love it (especially JIRA), so I may be a bit biased about this as well.  He describes the feeling that arguably successful people reccurently have, in which they don't think they deserve what they have achieved and at any given moment will be found out to be a fraud. I share this feeling with him all the time.

What I am listening to:

Blackstone’s CEO Stephen Schwarzman's interview with the Knowledge Project’s Shane Parrish is a gem thats unmissable if you want some good business and career advice, along with how to make good decisions.  I’d put this in my top ten POD casts.
#69 Stephen Schwarzman: What It TakesThe Knowledge Project with Shane Parrish

I’m always looking for credible performance enhancing and longevity techniques.  This interview with Dr. David Sinclair is full of cutting edge research and advice from which supplements to take to which exercises and stretches to do that may enhance and prolong your life.  I particularly loved his bit on training for what he calls the Centenarian Olympics.
